HAL STOWERS & The Art of
LIFE BLENDING®

B.J. STOWERS earned a Bachelor of Design from the College of Fine Art, University of Florida, in 1966, and became Hal Stowers' bride. Her own creativity and deep appreciation for the creative spirit evolved into a career helping others to express their visions and achieve their goals. While supporting Hal's senior year in Landscape Architecture, she began happily drawing for a group of UF leading edge research professors in Forestry – at a pleasant off campus location. Very soon UF's noted and dynamic Humanities Lecturer, Jack Funkhouser, asked her to accept a position helping to develop the graphics aspect of Teaching Resources, then located in the Main Library. Her responsibilities included researching, acquiring and utilizing new graphics technology and collaborating with faculty and administration to produce graphics for teaching, publishing and presenting the financial needs and goals of the University.

When Hal entered graduate school at University of California, Berkeley, it was a natural step for B.J. to accept a position on campus helping internationally known research professors in soil engineering prepare their papers for publication on subjects ranging from earthquakes and wave action to walking on the moon. She and Hal would meet for lunch at Sproul Plaza on the Berkeley campus to watch the action and listen to speakers and famous rock bands trying out their new music on the Berkeley students (during the legendary years of Flower Children, Summer of Love, Fillmore West, Haight Ashbury, People's Park, Free Speech Movement, Save our Bay – and Psychedelic everything, 1967–69).

In 1970, back in the Tampa Bay Area, she began working with a high school friend – now a successful life insurance agent – developing visual aids for personalized presentations that included caricatures of the clients. Responding to the interest of other agents, they prepared the more generic portions of the concepts to be reproduced (by silk screen process) and sets of the graphic easel presentations were sold and used by agents nationally.

By 1975, Hal was becoming established as an environmental artist. He and B.J. had built a new studio/residence and named it Point Sun Moon & Sea at Happy Bayou. Because of their shared concern for their beloved disappearing natural environment in Florida, and her belief that the art Hal was creating was remarkable and its message profound – she decided to devote herself full time – for the next five years – to becoming his creative assistant and to promoting his work. The rest is history.

Three decades later – collaborating with Hal to author and publish HAL STOWERS & The Art of LIFE BLENDING® – HOW TO KEEP YOUR CREATIVE JUICES FLOWING, is to date, the pinnacle of her desire and life's work to nurture creativity in others – and, to now share what she and Hal have discovered about maintaining a creative lifestyle – with those who seek it .

“The Art of Life Blending, her magnum opus, combines design, art, prose, poetry and the living image. It incorporates those life-enhancing experiences with the basic ingredients of one’s life to sustain creative flow…”
